DI gets new address to honour former Exec Dir Dermot Baldwin

CALGARY, AB – November 24, 2011.  On December 1, 2011 the address of the Calgary Drop-In & Rehab Centre (DI) will be officially unveiled as, 1 Dermot Baldwin Way S.E.

Ward 7 Alderman Druh Farrell will unveil the new sign and name as well as make a special presentation to Dermot Baldwin in honour of his advocacy and work to relieve homelessness in Calgary. Debbie Newman, Executive Director of the DI, along with board members, clients and staff will be in attendance to celebrate the man and the naming of the stretch of road leading into the DI for whom the lane is named: Dermot Baldwin.

“It is fitting that we celebrate Dermot’s legacy at this time,” says Debbie Newman, Executive Director, The DI. “This is our 50th year of operation and the 10th year of operation for the ‘new’ DI, a building which was built because of Dermot’s vision.”

It’s all in a name. A name that celebrates the legacy, passion and vision of a man who believed homeless and marginalized Calgarians needed a place to call their own. A place of beauty. A place Where People Matter.
