The Board of Directors of the Calgary Drop-In & Rehab Centre (the DI) announces that Executive Director Debbie Newman has resigned her position, effective immediately. We thank Debbie for her 22 years of dedicated service to the DI, including the last seven years as executive director. Debbie made a difference in the lives of thousands of vulnerable Calgarians.

Debbie commented, “While it saddens me to leave the DI, recent allegations about problems in the workplace have become a major distraction from our mission. I am stepping down for the good of the organization. I wish the DI and its clients nothing but the best.”

The Board is launching an executive search for a new leader. In the interim, Sandra Clarkson, associate executive director, will lead the organization. Sandra, who joined the DI in January 2017, will work with the dedicated DI staff, partners, volunteers and supporters to foster a safe and respectful workplace.

The Board is continuing with the previously announced review of the workplace culture at the DI.

Each year, up to 10,000 Calgarians experiencing homelessness, marginalization and extreme poverty count on the DI for access to emergency shelter, health services, community resources, permanent supportive housing and affordable housing supports. The DI relies heavily on the kindness of Calgarians to fund its 50+ programs and services.
