Creativity is freedom. It is a soothing escape, a therapeutic release, and — for many homeless men and women — a most effective tool to help process a lifetime of pain and trauma weighing on their shoulders.
The Art Program at the Calgary Drop-In Centre aims to provide clients a safe space where they can express themselves creatively through a number of different mediums.
Located in the ‘Our House’ Seniors Centre, clients can work quietly alone, or collaboratively with other artists. They can access a number of art supplies such as canvas, paints, pastels, and other craft supplies, free of cost. And they are also welcome to use cameras and computer terminals to work on photography and other digital artwork.
Many of the pieces created by clients through the Art Program are available to purchase by members of the public, with eighty percent of sales going directly to the artist. The remaining twenty percent is re-invested in the art program to purchase supplies and support the growth of the program.

Every dollar we raise ensures those who have lost their families, jobs and homes will never lose hope. Together, we can give them the community, skills and support they need to move beyond homelessness.
