Art Beat Volunteers have the very special responsibility of providing joy and entertainment to homeless Calgarians through the time-honoured tradition of live music. Art Beat performers donate their time and talents by performing on — or supporting behind the scenes of — our weekly Art Beat Stage, a live music production that takes place every Friday evening from September through June.
We welcome performers from all genres and styles to share their special gifts with us. Also required to make each week’s production a success are sound technicians, and people to help with set-up and tear down.
Volunteer orientation attendance is required for this opportunity.

Frequently Asked Questions
What do performances require?
We request seasoned performers who are comfortable performing for an hour to a large audience. Performances are approximately one hour in length, to an audience of four hundred and fifty people.
What does the Calgary Drop-In Centre provide for the performance?
We have a state of the art sound system, with a full PA, and monitor system. We also provide a sound tech and a green room to warm up. All you need to bring is your instruments, amps, and talent.
I play in a band and would like to perform, how do I go about doing this?
Send an email to Cort Bulloch, firstname.lastname@example.org, about your interest. Please provide information about your music or band including; sound bites, website address, and any Youtube videos of past performances.
Do you only host bands?
We welcome performers from solo acoustic acts, duo’s, trios and more. We do limit drums on the Artbeat stage due to sound levels and sensitivity of our clients to loud sound.
Is there a preferred genre of music?
We appreciate and enjoy music from many genres; classical, jazz, country, rock, songwriter, blues, salsa, and/or big band. Our audience is musically astute and if you are great at the genre of music you play, our clients will love it.
I am a DJ, do you only host live music?
We welcome DJ’s to come and spin songs while taking requests from clients.
I think every community should have a place like the Calgary Drop-In Centre. If they did, the world would be a better place.Manisha Ghooi
