Tax Program, ID Program, Assistance for Disability/AISH/Government Assistance
The counselors of the Calgary Drop-In Centre are some of the most amazing people in our agency. Seven days a week, they provide a vast array of services to the highly diverse needs of our clients. Don’t have any ID? Our counselors will help you. Need to open a bank account? Our counselors will help you. Need assistance finding/applying for Assured Income for the Severely Handicapped (AISH), Government Assistance, Legal Aid, or referrals to treatment for addictions and mental health? You guessed it, our counselors can help you.
Surprisingly, one of the most important services they offer is their Tax Program. Several services throughout the city are for “low-income” Calgarians and a previous year’s tax return is required to qualify for service. This is just one of the many ways that our counselors break down barriers and get our clients the care they require. And of course, they’re available for warm-hearted compassionate conversations as well.
I got the chance to work with ACV Cyril this morning in Hygiene, and I wanted to let you know how wonderful he is. Cyril picks up on routine very quickly and is always sure he is stocked with towels and supplies back there. Cyril has come in earlier than his start time every time he’s scheduled, and starts prepping Hygiene and making sure everything is clean and ready before we open up. Cyril does this all on his own without being asked, and is so diligent with his work. With anything he is taught, he makes an effort to learn how to do it correctly and efficiently. Thank you for bringing us such wonderful ACVs to our team, they are a huge help and we are all so thankful when they are around.Fanar
