Essentials such as food, clothing, and shelter are only the beginning. The Calgary Drop-In Centre takes an active role in preparing people for the work place. Whether it is improving computer literacy skills, resume writing workshops, mock interviews, or 17 job ready certifications such as WHMIS, Forklift, or Flag Person training, our employment program is readying people for the work place. This service is not just available to clients accessing our overnight services, but to any Calgarian who wants to better themselves and increase their career opportunities. The Employment Training & Support Program demonstrates the Calgary Drop-In Centre as a community serving agency.
Coming from a strong working background to being on AB Works was a shock to my system. Dealing with other personal issues gave me road blocks and left me feeling completely lost and terrified! I forced myself to come to the interview unsure of what would come of it. I actually cried when I was given good news of being able to start the EST course. I still wasn’t sure I’d be able to follow through with my current stressors but I did it because I felt welcome, valued and accepted (free lunch too!) Thank you!Misty M.
