Tarpon Energy Services generous donated safety gloves to The DI. This generous donation protects DI staff and volunteers from improperly disposed of diabetic needles from our elderly clients and broken glass from bottle pickers. The DI is a wonderful place to work and volunteer because of the generosity of people like the staff at Tarpon.

In October, the Calgary Drop-In and Rehabilitation Centre (Drop-In) reached out to the business community in search of PPE to keep their staff and volunteers safe. Tarpon saw this as a great opportunity to lend a helping hand or in this case, glove because of its commitment to reducing hand injuries in the workplace.
Tarpon donated 150 pairs of cut resistant gloves to the Drop-In staff and volunteers who now have the proper protection they need to continue helping others. “Tarpon intends to follow through with our no-cut workplace goal by providing the Drop-In with cut resistant gloves whenever they need them,” said Rick Wickland, Senior VP, Electric & Controls. “We believe cuts are no longer acceptable because they are preventable.”
Due to the nature of their jobs, staff and volunteers at the Drop-In come into contact with daily hazards such as improperly disposed needles, broken glass, sharp objects, metal, etc. “Having safety gloves will help the Drop-In staff implement critical programs while reducing WCB claims, which in turn allows the Drop-In to redirect funds into programs that directly serve low income and homeless Calgarians,” said Jordan Hamilton, Manager of External Relations at the Drop-In. “Thank you so much for the support and for caring about the safety of the staff and volunteers at The DI!”
In February 2009, Tarpon first got involved with the Drop-In when employees volunteered their time to help prepare and serve lunch at the centre. Over the years, Tarpon employees have continued to help the DI by donating clothing and personal hygiene products. Due to this longstanding relationship, it was an easy decision to help the Drop-In when they put a call out for help.
